Choosing between the balancer with or without selenium:
Areas in the Western United States may have selenium rich soils or the irrigation water sources are selenium rich. One source is the water from the Green River Valley in Utah which feeds into the Colorado River and reaches the Imperial Valley and Coachella Valley, very productive agricultural regions. Parts of the San Joaquin Valley and the Barstow/Mojave areas are also selenium rich. In time, these regions may have increasingly high selenium soil levels. Although selenium is an important trace element, if high levels of selenium are ingested it may reach toxic levels, leading to health problems even death.
The Dakotas, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montanta and Nebraska tend to have higher selenium concentrations and the eastern United States tend to have lower selenium levels with Ohio having the lowest selenium levels in the nation.
Choosing between the alfalfa and the grass balancer:
Horses fed 8 lbs. of alfalfa or more per day, you want to order the Equine Challenge™ Alfalfa Balancer.
Horses fed less than 8 lbs. of alfalfa per day will need Equine Challenge™ Grass Balancer.
Horses fed a mix of alfalfa and grass hay, more than 50% alfalfa, feed Equine Challenge™ Alfalfa Balancer. If the hay mix is more than 50% grass, feed Equine Challenge™ Grass Balancer.
The recommended serving of Equine Challenge™ is 2 – 4 oz. daily depending upon the activity level of your horse. For non- performance horses, feed2 oz. per day. For performance horses, horses in training, or pregnant and lactating mares, feed 2-4 oz. per day.
Introduce slowly to allow your horse to adjust to the new flavor. Trial sizes are available, contact us to try one out before committing to a larger size. Additional questions, e mail Will@PerformanceEquineBodywork.com, or click here to schedule an Equine Nutrition Consult.
